The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State has today doled out over 1000 bags of food grains to poor Muslims ahead of the 30-day fasting for the month of Ramadan.
Distributing the items at Kano road Central Mosque, Kaduna, on Wednesday the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Yohanna Buru, said the gesture became necessary as the holy month is coming around when there is a high cost of living amidst naira notes scarcity and hike of fuel across the country.
While stressing that “the church cannot forget the annual contributions by a Muslim woman, Hajia Ramatu Tijjani who shared bags of rice, cash and new clothes to the church widows and orphans during Christmas, New Year’ and the Easter celebrations”.
According to him, Last year, the church doled out bags of rice, maize, and other food items to poor Muslims in over 5 states, to enable them to participate fully in the month-long fast and prayers l.
“In this year’s distribution, we added mats and plastic Kettles so they could stay at home and pray for God to bring an end to the rising problems of insecurity, high inflation, and other problems bedeviling peace and stability in the country”.
“We are targeting over 1000 poor Muslims as we bought 50 bags of maize and 50 millets to share in some parts of the Northern states”.
The clergy noted that the gesture was a tool for strengthening relationships, peaceful co-existence, and religious tolerance among the faithful of different religions to attain peaceful and harmonious coexistence.
While stressing adhering to the teachings of the holy books; Bible and Qur’an, the Christian clergy urged the Muslim faithful to intensify prayers throughout the Holy month of Ramadan
Furthermore, he also appealed to well-to-do individuals to indulge in humanitarian services to ease the hardship of vulnerable persons in society.
Pastor Yohanna equally called on marketers to stop taking advantage of the holy month of Ramadan by tripling the prices of goods and services, adding that they were planning the usual yearly visits to markets to encourage them to offer Ramadan Bonanza.

Receiving the food items at Kano road central mosque, one of the leaders of the association of persons with disability, Mallam Hassan Lawal Mohammed (sarkin kutaren Kaduna) expressed happiness over the kind gesture by the Christian faithful for remembering them for over 10 years.
He said for the past 10 years, this church has been giving us foodstuffs and grains for free to use throughout the 30 days of Ramadan.
