Lere Reps Member Munir Trains, Empowers, Over 3,000 On Modern Tomato Cultivation, Preservation Techniques

In his bid to fight poverty, Member House of Representatives Ahmed Munir has trained and empowered over 3000 women and youth from Lere federal constituency.

The training in collaboration with National Horticultural Research Institute, Ibadan was specifically designed to impart modern agricultural skills for tomato cultivation, preservation and commercialization for youth and women in Lere agrarian rural settlement, according to the federal lawmaker.

He disclosed that each beneficiary’s account would be credited with startup cash to enable them commence in earnest and implement learned skills acquired through the training programme.

Munir highlighted the role of modern farming methods in growth and development of the society in the face of complex global challenges such as inflation, drought, deforestation amongst others.

“Lere with a population of over a million people can’t afford to rely on primitive ways of land cultivation to sustain its ever growing number of youth.

“It is imperative to adopt and adapt modern ways of cultivation for increased yields and maximum preservation for possible export to earn foreign exchange.

“I have over the years mapped out well thought out plans of how to assist my constituency achieve growth and prosperity in their mainstay, the agriculture.

“This training is one out of many that will be done subsequently until as many as possible youth and women of this constituency have been covered.

“It is time to do things differently to stand and overcome the challenges of today, “he said.

Commenting on proposed dam project in Lere, the federal legislator assured his constituents that works would begin as soon experts were done with feasibility studies on the site.

He said the dam when completed would serve farmers in Lere up to Yakawada with their irrigation and other needs.

He called on people of Lere to be supportive of constituted authorities, adding that democracy dividends could only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.
