The Federal Government has promised to bring a lasting solution to all the people displaced by the activities of the insurgency in the North East as well as finding an enduring and lasting solutions towards security challenges currently facing the nation.
The assurance was given through the Honourable minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development ,Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq in Abuja during a 2 day seminar on National Security.
Hajia Umar who was the Special Guest of Honour on her goodwill message said, her ministry is committed in taking the lead as well as coordinating all the needs of humanitarian affairs.
She said, her ministry will work together with all the security agencies, and other stakeholders in creating an enabling environment to pave the way for the safe return of the IDPs all over the country especially in the north east region.
The minister further said the cause of incessant cases of terrorism, kidnapping, banditry amongst other social vices was the inability of the previous leaders in living up to their responsibilities.
Saying those lapses were predominantly caused by unemployment and poverty.
She therefore promised to synergise with intergovernmental agencies, security and other key stakeholders in the area of intelligent gathering as well as information sharing to come up with a better package for humanitarian services and the security of lives and property in the country.
Earlier on his goodwill message, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS),Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai while examining the importance of the seminar said, issues of national security needed to be continuously reviewed ,re-examined and analysed to come up with modalities and steps to further contend with the new developments and concerns.
Gen. Buratai who is the chairman, Board of Trustee, Nigerian Army Resource Center (NARC) called on the minister to close the gaps by massively deploying humanitarian assistance that will go into the communities, identify the problems and bring succor and the support needed for the safe returns of the IDPs .
“We know the impact of the NGOs and other international organisations, we have to find a way to see that we block the gaps. Despite the presence of NGO and other humanitarian organisations, there are still gaps left, so it is very important that the gaps are filled and the ministry as it is has a very important role to play in that regard”. He stressed.
The 2 day seminar on national security was organised by the NARC in conjunction with the Department of Political Science, University of Abuja is at the end expected to bring to the fore, the security issues, review and evaluate them to further help in promoting the intelligent gathering and information sharing, looking for the way forward to better have a lasting and enduring solutions to the challenges of security in the country.
The seminar was attended by head and representatives of security agencies, both serving and retired senior officers, strategic partners as well as participants, amongst others.
