Remains of business tycoon, philanthropist and politician, Shitgurum, laid to rest in Plateau

The remains of Dr Godfrey Bawa Shitgurum has been laid to rest in his country home in Kwande community of Quan’ Pan Local Government Area of Plateau state.

Shitgurum is the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Duncan Group of Companies, which is a conglomerate with interests in various sectors, including agriculture/fertilizer company, maritime/ports, manufacturing, etc.

He was also a philanthropist, as well as a politician and a governorship aspirant in Plateau State in 2019, where he contested for the governorship seat under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He died at the age of 63 years, and the commencement of his funeral and burial intensifies as his remains was brought in from Abuja to the state.

The remains was taken to his family house at West of Mines in Jos, the state capital, his house at Gold and Base before finally being moved to Quan Pan.

At Quan’ Pan, his funeral service held at St. John Vianey Catholic Church Kwande, then was finally interred at the premises of the Peter Bawa and Anna Memorial Hospital which he built for his community and named after his parents.

In his remarks at the burial, Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Lalong, said the loss of Godfrey is one that will affect many of his benefactors, especially the poor and needy who relied on him for so many things.

Lalong appealed to the family of the deceased to the times and unite to make the family stronger, adding that whatever the differences are, they should come together and emulate their brother with a large heart.

In his Homily, Prof. Monsignor Cletus Gotan asked the sympathisers especially his family to be comforted by the fact that he played a very significant role in the development of the society, adding that he was compassionate and responsive to the needs of others with his resources, as well as development of the gifts and talents of many.

The Long Gamai of Gamailand HRH Miskoom Martin Shaldas III also condoled the family as well as the Kwo Chiefdom for the loss of Godfrey Bawa whose legacy of love and commitment to the Church and community remains very paramount.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Dr. Chris Maiyaki thanked sympathisers for paying last respects to their son and identify with the family at this time of loss.
