In an effort to boost agricultural productivity in Kaduna state, no fewer than 270, 000 farmers in the state to benefit from the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), consortium project in the next three years.
The project which commenced in 2018 is aimed at uplifting smallholders farmer’s livelihood in Kaduna state through market driven up-scaling of maize, Rice and Soybeans value chains.
According to the Project Coordinator, AGRA, Isaac Eni, disclosed in Kaduna that the purpose of the farmers field School is to train farmers in the state on how to use the modern technic in the farming process.
He added that the platform has also availed the farmers the opportunity to create market place for the sales of their farm produce after harvest through the help of AGRA.
“The two technics that we have adopted to empower the farmers are: through the classroom and through the field demonstration like we are doing here today,” Eni said.
The Project Coordinator who explained that one of the objectives of the project is to improve the income generation of the farmers says: ” one of the challenges limiting this project is funds.
While speaking, Eni explained that they were unable to reach the intended communities across the 23 local government areas of the state, while only 10 communities in each LGAs were being covered for the programme due to limited resources.
He called on Kaduna State Government to partner with foundation to enable them cover virtually all the 23 local government areas in the state to kick poverty out of the state.
One of the beneficiaries, Friday Daniel who demonstrated his acquired skills on the field said, he will forever be grateful to AGRA for the training.
The project was supported by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to boost the capacity of Nigerian farmers.
