A Faith Base National NGO known as Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN), has called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of tree planting in order to help the society and humanity at large in the area of health and sustainability of the people.
Speaking at the weekend during the World Environment Day celebration in Jos in Plateau State, Director of Programmes, Tobi Salawu said the world has been affected by preventable degredation through environmental pollution and hazards which are harmful to the human health.
According to him, it is imperative to imbibe the culture of environmental cleanliness because if the environment is clean it will boost the health of the citizenry inhabiting such environment.
He warned against the indiscriminate dumping of waste, used bottle water and scratched water, but on the land and in the seas among other things/places that would cause harm to the ecosystem, and to the people by extension.
Salawu went further to say that, among the measures to tackle environmental degredation, tree planting is quite formidable and encouraging because it protects many hazards like erosion, disasters caused by winds/rainfall, moderation of harsh climate condition, etc.
Also, the programme manager said besides, trees (some edible plants) provide food for the people, herbal medicines, research, among other valuable benefits.
Highlight of the event was the distribution of trees/plants seedlings to schools and other partners for onwards planting in the various schools/places of work.
